Super Tip #25: Install Ground Fault Circuits in Kitchens & Bathrooms

All receptacles near running water should be upgraded to ground fault (GFCI) receptacles.
GFCI’s have a built in circuit breaker that will turn off the flow of power from the receptacle
at the first sign of a problem. Home inspectors always look for GFCI’s. If they are not installed
before the inspection you will most likely be asked to install them or have money deducted from
the sale price to install them.

Warning number 1: check your local building code, you may have to hire a licensed electrician
to do this work. Warning number 2: do not attempt to work on electrical systems unless you are
sure the power is off. Warning number 3: Hire a pro if you are not experienced working with
electricity.

Do-it-yourself costs:
Less than $15.00 per receptacle

Super Tip #59: Add Built-In Bookshelves

All too often family rooms are just empty rooms with no character. Adding a built-in bookshelf
along one wall provides space for books and displaying art and collections. Bookshelves do not
have to be fancy, keep them simple with clean lines and painted to match the trim of the room.
Shelving should always be adjustable.
